October 12-16

After School Dismissal
At 3:00 p.m. our students are dismissed for the day and many students are enrolled in after-school programs (i.e. martial arts, dance, etc.) where the provider/company comes to pickup the child. For safety reasons, is important that this information is communicated to homeroom teachers and school staff.

It raises concern when a student is missing from their assigned bus and the school is not aware of alternative arrangements or after-school programs.  It can also be a traumatic experience for children who are expecting their siblings to board the bus and they do not show up.

Please help us keep our students safe and help us avoid situations where buses are delayed because we are looking for a child that has been picked up by a provider. If your child attends an after-school program where the provider comes directly to the school to pick up, we require you to fill out the attached form and return it to the school office.  Please fill out one form per child: Third Party Provider Student Pick Up Information Form

Parkview Picture Day
Don’t forget, Picture Day is coming next week on Thursday October 22. This year we are using Life Touch School Portraits and are excited in the improved quality and service they will provide. Please see flyer here.

Parent Workshop: Mental Health Awareness
Mental health awareness is an extremely important aspect of keeping our students happy, healthy, and learning at school.  Anxiety and stress is becoming increasingly common among our students. Being equipped with the understanding and strategies to help our children cope with anxiety is key to supporting their intellectual growth, physical growth, and development.

School vaccination clinics for Grade 7 and Grade 8 students
The Regional Municipality of York Public Health unit offers annual immunization clinics in schools providing vaccinations against hepatitis B and meningococcal disease for students in Grade 7, as well as human papilloma virus (HPV) for female students in Grade 8.

For the upcoming 2015-2016 school year, these clinics will be held three times at Parkview P.S.  Please mark your calendars, the dates are scheduled for:

  • October 20, 2015 (Tuesday)
  • December 15, 2015 (Tuesday)
  • April 28, 2016 (Thursday)

Previously, parents were required to return immunization consent forms to the school and York Region Public Health nurses picked up these forms on the day of the clinic. This year, York Region Public Health has mailed vaccination consent forms directly to families with children enrolled in Grade 7 and Grade 8 for the fall term. Families have been instructed to mail the completed consent forms directly to Public Health in self-addressed stamped envelopes before the school year starts in September. The forms should not be returned to school staff.

If your child is in Grade 7 or Grade 8 and has not received a form, please contact, Kim Keffer, School Clinic Liaison, at 1-877-464-9675 x 74354 or kim.keffer@york.ca, to receive the necessary consent forms.
