Getting ready for Next Year
(please note the corrected email address below in red )
It is that time of the year again… the planning for next year has
begun which includes the consideration of student class assignments. In May, our teachers spend a fair amount of time making carefully considered decisions regarding
appropriate class placements for our students. We
realize that parental input can be valuable to this process too.
To that end, we would ask that any requests regarding student placements be descriptive in nature. Please describe your child’s learning style and describe any learning environment that you feel would suit your child best. Requests for specific teachers will not be considered. This information should be emailed to Lisa Dilworth at lisa.dilworth@yrdsb.ca on or before May 1, 2016. Student placement meetings will be occurring the first week of May so unfortunately, late requests cannot be accepted.
Please come to our first caregiver tea on April 12!
You are invited: Parents, Grandparents, Caregivers
Time: 8:30 – 9:30, Tuesday, April 12
Place: Parkview school library
Topic: Understanding the Ontario Report Card – supporting your child’s learning through Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting
Tea, Coffee and light refreshment will be served.

Vaisakhi
For Sikhs, Vaisakhi, also known as Baisakhi, is the biggest annual celebration festival and a day of great significance. Vasakhi refers to the harvest festival of the Punjab region. We want to wish all families that celebrate Vasakhi a wonderful celebration.
Free Bike Check Up by Markham Cyclepath
Coming up next week, Markham Cyclepath will be offering Parkview STUDENTS a free bike check-up again this year. The free check-up will be held after school on Monday April 18. Students can bring their bikes to the area outside the Intermediate doors (beside the parking lot) from 3 to 5 pm.
As part of our recycling efforts, bicycles are being accepted for donation to Africycle. These bicycle donations (adult or children’s bikes) can be dropped off at the bike check area. Thank you to Ms Birtch for enabling Parkview to contribute to this great program.
Primary and Junior EQAO testing
In May the grade 3 and grade 6 students will be participating in the EQAO testing. They will be engaged in assessments of Language and Math for parts of the day during testing time. We encourage parents to make every effort not to schedule any trips or appointments during the testing period. The schedule is below:
Grade 3: Tuesday May 31 to Thursday June 2
Grade 6: Monday May 30 to Thursday June 2
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
SPRING CLEAN OUT TIME!!
Do you have any clothes that don’t fit? Any electronics that need to be cleared out? Parkview will be doing 2 Recycling Programs this spring!
“Bag2School” collects clothes, linens, towels, fabrics etc for recycling. Start cleaning out your closets and get ready to donate these items!
“Recycle Electronics” collects TV’s, DVD & VCR players, computers, monitors, stereos & speakers, phones, batteries, printers, copiers, etc.
Both of these programs give money to the school based on the total weight we collect. Start looking around for items you can donate!
Kid’s Kitchen
Kid’s Kitchen policy: In the event that a child does not pick up their lunch from our distributor, the lunch will be brought back to Kid’s Kitchen and not left at the school. This is to ensure that the quality of the food is not compromised and also that the service runs with minimal interruption to school staff.
Please do not hesitate to contact Kid’s Kitchen, if you have any questions/concerns regarding this policy.
