Planning for Next Year
It is that time of the year again… the planning for next year has begun which includes the consideration of student class assignments. In May, our teachers spend a fair amount of time making carefully considered decisions regarding appropriate class placements for our students. We realize that parental input can be valuable to this process too.
To that end, we would ask that any requests regarding student placements be descriptive in nature. Please describe your child’s learning style and describe any learning environment that you feel would suit your child best. Requests for specific teachers will not be considered. This information should be emailed to Lisa Dilworth at lisa.dilworth@yrdsb.ca on or before April 28th, 2017. Student placement meetings will be occurring the first week of May so unfortunately, late requests cannot be accepted.
Scent Free Environment
At Parkview, we have students with a variety of respiratory conditions and allergies. The YRDSB does maintain a scent free policy whenever possible. So please ensure that your children are not wearing perfumes and colognes to school. Also if possible use detergents and fabric softness that are scent free. Your co-operation is much appreciated.
EARTH WEEK BOOK EXCHANGE
Dear Parkview families, As part of our 2017 Earth Day plans, our annual student book exchange is back! This is the perfect time to sort through your SCHOOL-AGED books and donate the ones that you have previously enjoyed. Students bring in their gently used books (nothing damaged) from April 4 to 7, and receive a voucher for each book. Bring as many books as you like! Kids Magazines (Chirp, Owl, High Five, KIDS Sport Illustrated, KIDS National Geographic, etc.) in GOOD condition are also accepted. Choosing from the selection of books donated, students will be able to trade in vouchers from April 10 to 13. Just a reminder, there will be a limit of five vouchers redeemed in the first visit. Additional vouchers can ONLY be used after all classes have visited the book exchange. Thank you from your Eco Team!
EARTH DAY – PARKVIEW RECYCLES!
To celebrate Earth Day, Parkview will be holding several events to promote recycling in our homes and our school! Everyone can join in!
BAG2SCHOOL – This program is about donating used clothing, belts, shoes, boots, purses, bedding, towels, stuffed animals, etc. Any textiles are welcome. Large bags with instructions went home with students this past week. Use any bags to bring in your donations. Drop off your bags to the school lobby between April 18-21.
RECYCLE ELECTRONICS – Do you have old key boards, cables, TV’s, speakers, printers, monitors, DVDs, photo copiers etc? Bring them to Parkview on April 22 between 9:00-12:00. The more you bring the more money the school raises! Fliers went home with students this past week with more details. Extra fliers can be given to neighbours and friends.
BATTERIES – Used batteries are being collected in the school lobby now until April 21.
BOTTLES – In support of the Grade 8 Graduation, the parent grad committee will be collecting empty wine/beer/cooler bottles, beer/cooler cans and tetra packs on April 22 in the school parking lot from 9:00-12:00.
BIKE and HELMET SAFETY
Station Ski & Ride will be offering Parkview students a free bike and helmet safety inspection tomorrow, Monday, April 3rd, from 3 to 5 pm. The inspection will include minor adjustments to your bike, suggestions on how to make your bike safer and an assessment to ensure your bike helmet is properly fitted. Students can bring their bikes and helmets to the area outside the Intermediate doors (beside the parking lot) any time after school until 5:00. In the event of rain, the inspection will be moved into Parkview’s gym. As part of our recycling and re-use efforts, should anyone wish to donate unwanted bikes, we would be happy to find your bike a new rider. Bicycle donations (adult or children’s bikes) can be dropped off tomorrow after school during the bike and helmet inspection. There will be two bike safety assemblies tomorrow. The first assembly will begin at 1:40 pm.
