Parkview Happenings…

Come join us for Parkview’s Meet and Greet Evening which will take place on Thursday, October 11th, 2018. Visit classrooms, meet our teachers, and learn about your child’s experience at school. Teachers will be available to meet between 6:30-7:30pm. The BOOK FAIR will be available in the library. More details about this evening will follow.

Once again Parkview Public School is pleased to be hosting its 14th annual Terry Fox Walk/Run on Friday, October 5, 2018. All monies raised through our event will be forwarded to The Terry Fox Foundation to further the cause of cancer research.
Our walk/run schedule will be as follows:

  • Primary division (9:30 to 10:10 am)
  • Junior division (10:40 to 11:20 am)
  • Intermediate division (1:20 to 2:15 pm)

In recognition of Islamic Heritage Month, parents/guardians with their children grades K to 12 are invited to participate in a free Art History Workshop facilitated by the Aga Khan Museum. This workshop will consist of an introduction to the Aga Khan Museum and an understanding of the diversity and pluralism in Islam through the museum collection. Families will explore patterns from the art and architectures of the museum and Islamic artifacts. Each participant will create and take home their own tile. York Region parents/guardians can register at any of the school locations. Registration will be confirmed via email from Inclusive School and Community Services

A school playground allows children to learn and socialize through play while outdoors. Our playground is well used by the 500+ students attending Parkview Public School, as well as other children and families living and visiting the Unionville community. The goal of our School Council project is to raise funds for some new equipment for the playground. The funds raised will be used for the purchase of the equipment and plants for the area; and their installation and planting. Currently, we have submitted our playground idea in hopes of obtaining funds however we need, your help!! On Friday October 5th, Parkview’s School Council will be collecting unwanted used kid and adult running shoes, as part of our school-wide effort to reduce, re-use and recycle. We will donate the used running shoes to the Running Free Re-Use Shoe ProgramRunning Free will then distribute the shoes back into our community to those who need them.  Thank you in advance for participating in this initiative!

On September 25th, 2018, Parkview held School Council Elections. Please join us in congratulating the following executive council members for the 2018-19 School Year: Chair: Anoosh Sharif; Vice Chair: Flora Ho; Treasurer: Henna Alvi; Secretary: Bin Liu. We look forward to working together in order to support student achievement and well-being.

In November 2018, the York Region District School Board will invite all students to participate in the Every Student Counts Survey (ESCS). The purpose of this census survey is to better understand YRDSB’s diverse student population as well as students’ experiences in school and outside of school. In November, a school letter will be sent home (to families of students in grades 1-6) with a link to the online survey along with instructions. Our students in Grades 7&8 will be invited to complete the survey online during class time.

Important Bus Safety Update – Please visit http://net.schoolbuscity.com for updated bus information for your child. Routes have been slightly adjusted for some buses. Students must take the buses they are assigned to, both to and from school. Should you have any further questions please contact School Bus City  or call 905.713.2535.

As there are often changes of personal information that occur over the summer months, we are asking that you review your child’s Student Registration Verification sheet that has been sent home. Please update your child’s personal and medical information as well and confirm that the parent contact and emergency contact information is current. It is important that we have your current contact information in case the school needs to reach you. If you haven’t already, please return the Student Registration Verification sheet to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Thank you for your help in keeping your child’s student records up to date.

For our Grade 8 parents – Information nights from our High Schools are quickly approaching. Please visit the schools, on the dates outlined below, to gather more information about specific programs they may offer. In addition to the information sessions below, AP programs are available at Bur Oak SS, Markham District HS, Markville SS and Pierre Elliott Trudeau HS. The High Performance Athlete programs are not available for grade 9 students, however they are available in later years at the following schools: Markham District HS, markville SS, Bill Crothers SS, and Richmond Green SS.

  • Arts Unionvile @ Unionville High school – Oct 30 @ 6:30pm – 8:30am
  • Athletics @ Bill Crothers Secondary School – Sept 27 @ 7:00pm or Oct 2 @ 7:00pm
  • International Baccalaureate @ Milliken Mills – Oct 17 @ 7:00pm
