It was great to welcome back all students returning to in-class learning at Parkview this week! Students have been doing an outstanding job of practicing proper hand hygiene and following our enhanced health and safety protocols around schools. We ask that families continue to remind students of the importance of social distancing and keeping hands off during outdoor play. A reminder that until further notice, all play structures and basketball nets at Parkview are closed. We also ask that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. Where possible, classes will be held outdoors and classroom windows will remain open at all times to allow as much fresh air into the building as possible.
Please ensure you continue to screen your child every morning before their arrival at school. The YRDSB daily checklist and the self-assessment from York Region Public Health is below for your review. The Government of Ontario has also recently released an online tool that is a simple and easy way to complete a screening. No personal information is collected using this tool.
School Model Change
By now you have received an email from our Director indicating the process for requesting a school model change (i.e., moving from Face to Face Learning to Online Learning or from Online Learning to Face to Face learning). PLEASE NOTE: You must complete the form coming on Monday to be considered for a change. Even if you have put your name on a wait list at Parkview, it is required that you complete the official request form which is directly shared with our centralized offices. No action is required if you do not wish to change your child’s currently learning model.
As we will not be able to add your name manually at the school level, it is essential that you watch for this form and further information from the YRDSB in your email inbox on Monday, September 21st and reply by Tuesday, Sept 22nd at 7pm.
NEW: FDK Entry and Dismissal
Please note that as part of our safe entry and dismissal, access to the Kindergarten pathway on the west side of the school will not be available to families as a walkway. The Kindergarten yard will be used as a drop off and pick up area ONLY for the Kindergarten cohort of students.
Please be sure to use the EAST side of the building to walk siblings to their designated entry locations.
Kindergarten parents/guardians, please be sure to wait outside the gated area. Students will be dismissed 1-1 and sent out of the yard to greet you at the gate.
Thank you for your ongoing support with these new routines!
Parking
A reminder to all families that our parking lot is closed during dismissal. For the safety of all students and families leaving each day, we ask that families park their vehicles in a safe place on a street around the school where the City of Markham permits.
Fanny Packs
All students have received a coloured fanny pack. The colour corresponds to their cohort and designated play area in our yard. Students can keep their masks on while entering/exiting and can use these to store their masks safely during recess and lunch if they so choose. Students are encouraged to wear their fanny packs during recess and lunch are asked to leave their fanny pack at school at the end of each day.
Edsby Online Absence Reporting
Parents/guardians can report student absences online.
Regular and punctual attendance affects school success and is expected of all students. It is important that students, families and school staff work together to ensure regular attendance. You are expected to notify the school as soon as possible if your child will be absent or late.
Reporting an absence online is now available through Edsby. If you have activated your Edsby account, you can login to Edsby and report your child’s absence online. You can access an online video tutorial to learn more (bit.ly/edsbyabsence) about how to do this.
If you have not yet created an Edsby account, please email the school,
A Message from YRDSB International Languages:
Elementary International and Indigenous Languages (IIL) Classes for 2020/2021
The International and Indigenous Languages (IIL) program provides elementary and secondary students with the opportunity to speak, read and write a new language or maintain heritage language and culture. Due to the pandemic, International and Indigenous Language classes for SK to Grade 8 students will take place online, not in the school buildings. Teachers will teach live language lessons in real time using Google Classroom to provide both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities during the regularly scheduled language class.
Lots of information is also available on our International and Indigenous webpages. To learn more about elementary programs, click on elementary programs. Below you will find information on how to register for elementary (SK to grade 8) language classes.
