Every day, parents/guardians and students over 18 are responsible for reviewing and adhering to the checklist from York Region Public Health. This checklist has been recently updated to reflect the Ontario government’s revised COVID-19 Screening Tool for Children in Schools and Child Care.
Please note that the new screening guide applies to children only and the adult screening has not changed. Thank you for working with us to protect the health and safety of students, staff and families and to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
We continue to see the benefits of students spending time outside and being active while physically distancing. A reminder to families to please ensure students are coming to school dressed appropriately for the cooler and wetter fall weather. Students will continue to spend time outdoors during recess and lunch and will continue to engage in outdoor learning activities with their classmates while at school.
Virtual Meet and Greet
On Wednesday, October 21 you are invited to join us for our Virtual Meet and Greet. Due to Health and Safety priorities, this year’s event is being held virtually (online). Each family will be invited (via email) by their child’s teacher(s) to a Google Meet where they will have an opportunity to meet the teacher, hear about the upcoming year, take a peek into the school/ classroom, and have an introduction to the new Ministry Math Curriculum. These sessions may be pre recorded or live.
The schedule for the evening is as follows:
- Session 1 (5:30 pm to 5:50 pm)
- Session 2 (6:00 pm to 6:20 pm)
These are repeat sessions that will allow for families to attend two if they have more than one child at Parkview this year.
Please be aware that during the virtual meet and greet you MUST REFRAIN from:
- recording any aspect of a Google Meet (including pictures, voices or video) using internal or external recording devices;
- taking photos or screenshots of anything
- distributing/posting any recorded, copied or distributed materials in any way, including to all social media platforms; and editing or manipulating materials in any way.
This is not a parent / teacher interview, these will be held at a later date.
School Council Meeting
A reminder that our Virtual School Council meeting will be taking place on Thursday, October 22nd. Please refer to the email that was sent for more information about attending and our meeting.
2SLGBTQ+ History Month
The month of October commemorates the impact that Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender, queer, questioning, and individuals with related identities have had in our local communities, nationally and internationally. It is an opportunity to build awareness of the contributions the 2SLGBTQ+ community has made in Canada and abroad. The affirmation of sexual and gender diversity in our learning and working environments means that we recognize the diversity within our 2SLGBTQ+ communities and acknowledge the presence of Indigenous, racialized, disabled and other diverse identities among our students and staff. Likewise, knowledge about 2SLGBTQ+ history helps to address the systemic barriers that contribute to heterosexism and cissexism.
At Parkview, we are committed to creating safe and inclusive spaces that honour all members of our global community. Read and learn more about the history and significance about the Rainbow Flag.
The United Parents (UP) Project
The United Parents (UP) Project is designed to support parents of Black children as they navigate the education system. The UP Project includes capacity building workshops, supports for system navigation and a Black Parent Mentorship Program. It is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Youth Opportunities Fund, Family Innovations Stream. A poster and more information is available here.
October is Islamic Heritage Month
Parent-Teacher Virtual Interviews
Family Virtual Conferences will be held on November 12 and 13. You will have an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) and learn more about the classroom. We regret that for health and safety reasons, we are unable to host an event at the school as we normally would, however we look forward to meeting with you virtually.
Families can use Edsby, an online platform, to schedule a meeting time with their child(ren)’s teacher(s) on Parents’ Night. You will receive an invitation to sign up for a meeting time once the schedules are available. YRDSB in partnership with Edsby have created a secure platform that protects the privacy of information for families.
Families who do not have an Edsby account will need to create one to access the online appointment scheduler for their child’s teachers for the virtual conference. An up-to-date and valid email address must be provided to your child’s home school. For help creating an Edsby account, instructions can be found on the Board website. An email from York Region District School Board with instructions on how to create an Edsby account will be sent to your email inbox. If you do not receive the email, please check your junk mail folder to ensure you do not miss this opportunity.
