October 18 – 22

**Covid Screening Tool Update**

Effective Monday, October 18, 2021, York Region Public Health will require students to use the provincial COVID-19 school and child care screening tool. Students, parents and guardians will still be able to access the link to the tool through the York Region Staying Safe at School webpage. It is important that families screen their child daily and follow the screening tool, please do not send your child to school if they are displaying covid symptoms. This is to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Thank you for your continued support.

Curriculum Night – October 28th

We are excited to announce that Curriculum Night will be on Thursday, October 28, 2021.  Presentations will either be a virtual meeting or a pre-recorded presentation.  Additional information will be shared by classroom teachers closer to the date.

October 21 is Spirit Day

Each year, students, educators and allies bring attention to the need for safer and more inclusive learning and working environments for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and individuals with related identities (2SLGBTQ+). The purple stripe on the pride flag represents spirit, giving this day its name. Wear purple on the 21st to show support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and to take a stand against bullying.

Halloween

We are STRONGLY encouraging our students to wear ORANGE and BLACK or FALL colours.

School Yard Safety

Just a reminder that students should not arrive at school before 8:15 am.  There is no supervision before 8:15 am.  Once you have dropped off your child(ren) please say goodbye and leave promptly, to avoid congregating on school property.  Also please remind your child(ren) that they should head straight home once dismissed at the end of the school day.

Islamic Heritage Month

In 2007, the Government of Canada declared the month of October as Canadian Islamic History Month. This month affords an opportunity to reflect, celebrate and learn about the rich heritage and history of Muslims in areas such as literature, the arts, math, science, and socially. Affirming Muslim identity for our students is critical in creating the inclusive climates necessary for student well-being and achievement, as well as combating Islamophobia in our schools and further challenging systemic barriers to success.

Please see the Islamic Heritage Month Events/Programs and Resources section for upcoming events reflecting this year’s theme: Heritage and Healing
