Treaties Recognition Week
The first week of November is officially Ontario’s Treaties Recognition Week. During the week of November 1-7, 2021, we recognize the importance of treaties and bring awareness to the treaty relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the province. There are 46 treaties in Ontario and we all have a responsibility to honour the treaties.
November 11 – Remembrance Day
We will be honouring veterans in class, there will be no community assembly due to Covid-19 safety measures and protocols.
Food Drive – Nov. 1 – Dec. 10
We will begin collecting non-perishable food items (canned food, pasta, etc.) for families in need beginning this Monday. Our food drive will run until December 10, 2021.
Report Cards and Parent Teacher Interviews
Progress Reports will be distributed electronically the week of November 15, 2021. Further communication about this process will be shared at a later date. Virtual interviews will take place the evening of November 18 and on November 19. Families will book interview times using Edsby. More information about interview bookings will be shared in the coming weeks. If parents/guardians would like to request a translator please inform your child’s teacher as soon as possible so that the school can make arrangements.
November 19 – No School -PA Day
Safety Reminders
- Parents/guardians/caregivers are asked to wear masks on school property when picking up or dropping off their child
- Students need to go directly home to avoid congregating on school property
Students should know:
- How to contact their parents at any time, by memorizing cell or work numbers.
- How and under what circumstances to call 911.
- To never approach or enter a stranger’s vehicle. A responsible adult would never ask a child for directions or any other question for that matter.
- To always tell parents where they will be and to never enter someone’s home without their parent’s permission.
- If home alone, never admit it when answering the phone. Never answer a knock at the door or speak through it. Adults can be very persuasive. Teach your child to call you if there is a knock at the door and if they fear for their safety, teach them to call 911. Make sure they know that police officers are there to help them and would not get mad if it were a false alarm.
- If they think they are being followed or are in danger they should run home or to a public place. If someone grabs them, they should try to get away, yelling and screaming while doing so.
- It is important to play in safe areas, never take shortcuts and stick with a buddy whenever possible.
Remind children to alert a responsible adult if something strange happens that makes them feel uncomfortable. Remember, crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
