Daily Screening Reminder
“York Region Public Health is strongly recommending that all students, teachers, staff and visitors wear a well-fitted three-layer mask in classrooms, common areas, including hallways, and while using school transportation upon return to school on April 19, 2022.
Please refer to the letter sent home to families on April 14, 2022 via email from YRDSB.
Students, staff members and visitors are to continue to review and adhere to the COVID-19 School and Child-Care Screening Tool (please click on Check for Symptoms Daily), prior to entering the school daily. The screening tool has been updated to reflect new masking and isolation requirements.
Additional information about what to do if you have tested positive or been exposed to a positive case can also be found at www.york.ca/safeatschool. Please note that close contacts of a COVID-19 case who are not required to isolate must self-monitor for 10 days (from last exposure) and wear a well-fitted mask in school and child care settings. This includes avoiding activities such as high-contact sports and where masking and/or physical distancing cannot be maintained.
Possibility of Pivoting to Online Learning
As case numbers continue to increase, there may be some cases where as a last resort, the school may be required to move a class to online learning due to lack of available substitute staff members.
Where classes are moved to online, learning will continue virtually either asynchronously or synchronously. Families will receive notice through email and/or text. Your child’s teacher(s) will communicate with students regarding the learning arrangements for that day. Tips and resources are available on the Board website to support families in accessing online learning tools.
We recognize that this information may be concerning for families. Please know that these decisions are not taken lightly, and are made to ensure continuation of student learning and to support student safety and well-being.
Thank you for your ongoing support and patience.
Scholastic Book Fair
Parkview will be hosting an in-person as well as a Virtual Scholastic Book Fair the week of May 2nd to May 6th.
In order to deter large crowds in the library, the Book Fair will only be open during class time and the library will be closed during recess and lunch time. Only one class at a time will be visiting this year’s Book Fair.
At this time, Parkview is still closed to visitors. This means that parents will be unable to come in person to browse at the Book Fair. Your child’s class will be visiting the Book Fair if they are in person, or they can also choose to visit the “Virtual Book Fair”
Each class will have a chance to visit the Book Fair in the library twice. The first visit will be to browse and create a wish list. Then, the students will bring home their wish list to discuss with families which books or other items that they might like to purchase. It is always up to each family whether or not your child will purchase any books or other items. If you choose to allow your child to purchase items from the Book Fair, please send money or a cheque made out to Parkview Public School when your child’s class comes for his/her 2nd visit. I am attaching a schedule in this message so that families know when their child is coming to browse or buy items at this year’s Scholastic Book Fair.
Families may also choose to use the Virtual link to shop from home. Items that are purchased online during this time, will be shipped to Parkview for free when Scholastic comes to pick up the “in person” Book Fair and then families can come by the school to collect items that were purchased online. If families of students that are “in person” shop online, items will be sent home with your child. If parents prefer, they can also choose to have items shipped to your home, but a delivery fee will be charged.
A portion of each sale will go back to the school library to help to raise money for the library.

The virtual link will not become active until May 2nd, 2022
Here is a schedule of when each class will be coming to the Parkview Scholastic Book Fair:
Kindergarten Registration
Just a friendly reminder that Kindergarten registration is open. More information regarding a virtual Welcome to Kindergarten evening will be shared in the upcoming weeks.
Are You Moving?
As we begin to tentatively plan for the year ahead, it is important that you notify the school if you are moving or planning to have your children attend another school in September 2022. You can email the office at Parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca with this information.
Extended Vacation
Families going on an extended vacation must inform the office at Parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca.
Personal Items
Students are reminded that items from home such as toys, cards, balls, etc., should not be brought to school.
Parking/Drop-off/Pick-up
Parents/guardians who are driving to school should review the map below.
- Parents/guardians should not be stopping on the street (dotted red line on the map) where stopping is NOT permitted and letting their children out, this is unsafe and it blocks traffic.
- Parents/guardians should NOT park in the school parking lot or bus loop. The parking lot is for staff parking only.
- Parents/guardians should NOT be parking where there is a solid red line on the map during drop-off or pick-up
- When dropping off in the loop it is important that you pull up to the front and drive slowly and remain patient as we ensure student safety.

Fundraising
This year we are fundraising to support the following initiatives:
- Technology- purchasing more iPads and Chromebooks for students
- Literacy- investing in diverse books and levelled books to support guided reading
- Well Being- indoor recess activities and more outdoor recess equipment
Since we are limited with the type of fundraising we can engage in, we are asking that families consider making a donation through School Cash Online. The donations collected will go directly to supporting our students this year. Donations of $20 or more are fully tax-deductible and receipts will be provided through School Cash Online.
All amounts are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your ongoing support!
