May 9-13

Daily Screening Reminder

York Region Public Health is strongly recommending that  all students, teachers, staff and visitors  wear a well-fitted three-layer mask in classrooms, common areas, including hallways, and while using school transportation upon return to school on April 19, 2022.

Please refer to the letter sent home to families on April 14, 2022 via email from YRDSB.

Students, staff members and visitors are to continue to review and adhere to the COVID-19 School and Child-Care Screening Tool (please click on Check for Symptoms Daily), prior to entering the school daily.  The screening tool has been updated to reflect new masking and isolation requirements.

Additional information about what to do if you have tested positive or been exposed to a positive case can also be found at www.york.ca/safeatschool. Please note that close contacts of a COVID-19 case who are not required to isolate must self-monitor for 10 days (from last exposure) and wear a well-fitted mask in school and child care settings. This includes avoiding activities such as high-contact sports and where masking and/or physical distancing cannot be maintained.

School Assistant Opportunities 2022-23

If you are interested in supporting the school next year with becoming a school assistant, please email parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca. School Lunch Assistants play a significant role as members of our school team. The period of time that school assistants are utilized is one of the busiest times of the school day. The role of school assistants is to provide supervisory support to teaching staff during critical periods of the school day. Supervision duties include supervision of students during the lunch hour from 12:20-1:20pm.

Class Placements

As we begin the process of organizing classes for September 2022, it is valuable for parents/guardians to understand the procedure used in student placement decisions. The ultimate goal in all our efforts at Parkview P.S. is to enhance student achievement and well-being. We attempt to place students in the most positive learning environment possible given each individual pupil’s skills, knowledge, attitudes, work and social habits. A great deal of time is spent ensuring that each student’s academic and social needs are met.

Classes at each grade level are formed using the following criteria:

  • Class sizes consistent with Ministry and Board guidelines;
  • A gender balance in each class;
  • A range of performance levels within each class;
  • Promoting positive social relationships.

If you have any information about your child that you feel would be pertinent in the placement process (e.g., learning styles, twins’ placements), please inform the principal in writing (shelley.anand@yrdsb.ca) by Friday, May 13th 2022. In order to assist us in our efforts to create balanced classrooms and to create the optimum learning environments, we respectfully ask your assistance in not making requests for specific teachers or specific friendship groupings. While your input is carefully considered, the final decision about a child’s placement rests with the school team.  We appreciate all your ongoing support.

Staffing Update

Congratulations to Ms. Janakan who will be taking on a new role in the board as an Assistant Buyer. Her last day at Parkview was May 6th, 2022. Thank you to Ms. Janakan who has always gone beyond, working endless hours to support our school community. Ms. Janakan has led with kindness, professionalism and integrity. We will miss her greatly. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Ms. Senthuran who will be joining our Parkview family. Ms. Senthuran is very excited to serve the Parkview community as our new EOAA. Ms. Senthuran will begin on May 9th, 2022. We look forward to working with Ms. Senthuran and would like to congratulate her on her new position at Parkview Public School. We know that Ms. Senthuran’s skill set will be an asset to our school.

EQAO

Between June 6 and June 10, in-person students in Grade 3 and Grade 6 will be taking part in the provincial Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics.  This assessment is administered to all Grade 3 and Grade 6 students in Ontario’s publicly funded school system by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), an independent agency of the Government of Ontario.

Students will complete the assessment in their regular classrooms with their regular teachers.

Welcome to Kindergarten

Parview will be hosting a VIRTUAL  Welcome to Kindergarten event on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 . All families who have registered their child for Kindergarten will receive further information about this event by email.

ProGrant

Thank you to our school council for organizing our annual ProGrant evening for our Parkview families.

Liz Pearson’s research-based presentation about how to use food to reduce the risk of  depression and anxiety and optimize the mental health of our families, was very informative and insightful.  Parents got many tips on how to create healthy meals, important foods to include in daily meals and what foods to avoid.

Kindergarten Registration

Just a friendly reminder that Kindergarten registration is open.  More information regarding a virtual Welcome to Kindergarten evening will be shared in the upcoming weeks.

Are You Moving?

As we begin to tentatively plan for the year ahead, it is important that you notify the school if you are moving or planning to have your children attend another school in September 2022. You can email the office at Parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca with this information.

Extended Vacation

Families going on an extended vacation must inform the office at Parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca.

Parking/Drop-off/Pick-up

Parents/guardians who are driving to school should review the map below.

  • Parents/guardians should not be stopping on the street (dotted red line on the map) where stopping is NOT permitted and letting their children out, this is unsafe and it blocks traffic.
  • Parents/guardians should NOT park in the school parking lot or bus loop. The parking lot is for staff parking only.
  • Parents/guardians should NOT be parking where there is a solid red line on the map during drop-off or pick-up
  • When dropping off in the loop it is important that you pull up to the front and drive slowly and remain patient as we ensure student safety.
