School Closed May 24th Due to Power Outage
Due to this weekend’s storm, our school is currently without electricity. Because we cannot confirm that power will be available, the school will be closed tomorrow. On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, all students and staff members will learn and work remotely. Asynchronous learning will be taking place for all classes. Please do not send your child to school on May 24, 2022.
Hydro is expected to be restored before Wednesday morning, and we look forward to having all students, and staff members back at school on May 25, 2022.
We recognize that this is inconvenient and may cause some disruption to your plans. We appreciate everyone’s support and cooperation. The safety of students and staff members is our first priority and we are taking all necessary measures.
If you have any questions, please contact the school.
Daily Screening Reminder
York Region Public Health strongly recommends that all students, teachers, staff and visitors wear a well-fitted three-layer mask in classrooms, common areas, including hallways, and while using school transportation.
“Students/attendees, staff and visitors must continue to complete the provincial COVID-19 school and child care screening tool every day before attending school or child care settings. Symptomatic individuals and their household members should follow the instructions on the screening tool for isolation requirements; parents must not send children to school or child care if they are showing any symptoms of COVID-19.”
Additional information about what to do if you have tested positive or been exposed to a positive case can also be found at www.york.ca/safeatschool.
School Yard Safety
Just a reminder that students should not arrive at school before 8:15 am. There is no supervision before 8:15 am.
Clothing
Please ensure that your child(ren) come to school dressed appropriately for the weather. Students should be wearing proper fitting shoes such as running shoes. If it is sunny/hot, students should wear sunscreen, bring a hat, and have a water bottle that they could refill. On cooler days students should have a light jacket or sweater.
FREEZIE FRIDAYS
Jumbo freezies will be sold for $2 every Friday to students in grades 1-8 at morning recess. Bring a Toonie for Freezie Fridays!
School Assistant Opportunities 2022-23
If you are interested in supporting the school next year with becoming a school assistant, please email parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca. School Lunch Assistants play a significant role as members of our school team. The period of time that school assistants are utilized is one of the busiest times of the school day. The role of school assistants is to provide supervisory support to teaching staff during critical periods of the school day. Supervision duties include supervision of students during the lunch hour from 12:20-1:20pm.
YRDSB Student and Family Surveys
We will be inviting all students in Grades 7-12 and all families of students in Grades K-12 to participate in the 2021-22 YRDSB Student and Family Surveys between June 1-30, 2022. Surveys will be available online and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
The surveys will provide the Board and our schools with valuable information about the learning experiences of students and families this year. Results will be used to guide Board and school planning to support student achievement and well-being.
Students and families will be invited to complete their respective surveys by email. Families who do not want their child(ren) to be sent an invitation to participate in the survey may contact Research Services at research.services@yrdsb.ca no later than May 26, 2022. For your convenience, copies of the surveys are available on the Board website. The Family Survey will be available online in:
- Arabic
- Chinese (simplified)
- Chinese (traditional)
- Farsi
- Gujarati
- Hebrew
- Korean
- Punjabi
- Russian
- Tamil
- Turkish
- Urdu
- Vietnamese
As our first partners in education, we value input from families and encourage parents/guardians to complete the survey. The information provided will be anonymous and kept in strict accordance with all relevant legislation. Survey results will remain confidential and will be collated along with the responses of all students and all families in the form of a summary report (i.e., individual responses will not be reported, only grouped data will be reported).
Please contact Research Services at research.services@yrdsb.ca if you have any questions or visit the Board website to learn more.
EQAO
Between June 6 and June 10, in-person students in Grade 3 and Grade 6 will be taking part in the provincial Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. This assessment is administered to all Grade 3 and Grade 6 students in Ontario’s publicly funded school system by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), an independent agency of the Government of Ontario.
Students will complete the assessment in their regular classrooms with their regular teachers.
Are You Moving?
As we begin to tentatively plan for the year ahead, it is important that you notify the school if you are moving or planning to have your children attend another school in September 2022. You can email the office at Parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca with this information.
Extended Vacation
Families going on an extended vacation must inform the office at Parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca.
Parking/Drop-off/Pick-up
Parents/guardians who are driving to school should review the map below.
- Parents/guardians should not be stopping on the street (dotted red line on the map) where stopping is NOT permitted and letting their children out, this is unsafe and it blocks traffic.
- Parents/guardians should NOT park in the school parking lot or bus loop. The parking lot is for staff parking only.
- Parents/guardians should NOT be parking where there is a solid red line on the map during drop-off or pick-up
- When dropping off in the loop it is important that you pull up to the front and drive slowly and remain patient as we ensure student safety.
