June 6 – June 10

Daily Screening Reminder

York Region Public Health strongly recommends that  all students, teachers, staff and visitors  wear a well-fitted three-layer mask in classrooms, common areas, including hallways, and while using school transportation.

“Students/attendees, staff and visitors must continue to complete the provincial COVID-19 school and child care screening tool every day before attending school or child care settings. Symptomatic individuals and their household members should follow the instructions on the screening tool for isolation requirements; parents must not send children to school or child care if they are showing any symptoms of COVID-19.”

Additional information about what to do if you have tested positive or been exposed to a positive case can also be found at www.york.ca/safeatschool.

YRDSB Student and Family Surveys – Now Available

The 2021-22 YRDSB Student and Family Surveys are now available online until June 30, 2022.

These surveys will provide the Board and our schools with valuable information about the experiences of students and families. Results will be used to guide Board and school planning to support student achievement and well-being.

Students and families have received a link to their respective surveys by email. If you do not want your child(ren) to participate in this survey, but missed the deadline on May 26, 2022 to opt your child(ren) out of receiving the link to the surveys, please advise your child(ren) to not participate. Families who do not want to participate in the Family Survey may disregard the email invitation.

The Family Survey is available online in:

  • Arabic
  • Chinese (simplified)
  • Chinese (traditional)
  • Farsi
  • English
  • Gujarati
  • Hebrew
  • Korean
  • Punjabi
  • Russian
  • Tamil
  • Turkish
  • Urdu
  • Vietnamese

As our first partners in education, we value input from families and encourage parents/guardians to complete the survey. The information provided will be anonymous and kept in strict accordance with all relevant legislation. Survey results will remain confidential and will be collated along with the responses of all students and all families in the form of a summary report (i.e., individual responses will not be reported, only grouped data will be reported).

Please contact Research Services at research.services@yrdsb.ca if you have any questions or visit the Board website to learn more.

Indigenous History Month and Indigenous Peoples Day

June is National Indigenous History month.  National Indigenous History month is a time to celebrate the diverse cultures of First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities, as opposed to focusing on what has been done to them.  The month, which includes National Indigenous Peoples Day, is a perfect time to reflect upon the long relationship between the many different Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island and Canadians throughout history. June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Pride Month

June is Pride Month around the globe. It’s a time when people in the 2SLGBTQI+ community (two spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and additional identities) recognize 2SLGBTQI+ history and leaders in activism. Pride Month allows schools to embrace inclusion and celebrate diversity. The York Region District School Board fully supports 2SLGBTQI+ education to ensure that students are learning about gender identity, cissexism, homophobia, diversity and inclusion.

EQAO

Between June 6 and June 10, in-person students in Grade 3 and Grade 6 will be taking part in the provincial Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics.  This assessment is administered to all Grade 3 and Grade 6 students in Ontario’s publicly funded school system by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), an independent agency of the Government of Ontario.

Students will complete the assessment in their regular classrooms with their regular teachers.

School Yard Safety

Just a reminder that students should not arrive at school before 8:15 am.  There is no supervision before 8:15 am.

Clothing

Please ensure that your child(ren)  comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather.  Students should be wearing proper fitting shoes such as running shoes.  If it is sunny/hot, students should wear sunscreen, bring a hat, and have a water bottle that they could refill.  On cooler days students should have a light jacket or sweater.

Freezie Fridays

Jumbo freezies will be sold for $2 every Friday to students in grades 1-8 at morning recess. Bring a Toonie for Freezie Fridays!

June 30, 2022 – Early Release Day

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being.  On Thursday, June 30, 2022, an early release day will take place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day.  These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 30, 2022 only.  Students will be dismissed early that day at 11:30 am.  Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time.  Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.

School Assistant Opportunities 2022-23

If you are interested in supporting the school next year with becoming a school assistant, please email parkview.ps@yrdsb.ca. School Lunch Assistants play a significant role as members of our school team. The period of time that school assistants are utilized is one of the busiest times of the school day. The role of school assistants is to provide supervisory support to teaching staff during critical periods of the school day. Supervision duties include supervision of students during the lunch hour from 12:20-1:20pm.

Parking/Drop-off/Pick-up

Parents/guardians who are driving to school should review the map below.

  • Parents/guardians should not be stopping on the street (dotted red line on the map) where stopping is NOT permitted and letting their children out, this is unsafe and it blocks traffic.
  • Parents/guardians should NOT park in the school parking lot or bus loop. The parking lot is for staff parking only.
  • Parents/guardians should NOT be parking where there is a solid red line on the map during drop-off or pick-up
  • When dropping off in the loop it is important that you pull up to the front and drive slowly and remain patient as we ensure student safety.
