Take Our Kids to High School Day: This Wednesday, November 2nd is YRDSB’s annual “Take Our Kids to High School Day (TOKHSD) ”. On this day, Grade 8 students will have the opportunity to visit our local high school, Unionville High School, otherwise known as UHS. While it is recognized that some Grade 8 students may be planning to attend a different high school for 2023-2024, TOKHSD should be viewed as a transition opportunity, giving students the chance to explore a high school with their classmates and Grade 8 teacher. During their visit, students will:
- Be given a tour of the school;
- Visit a variety of classrooms;
- Meet with Grade 9 teachers who will discuss compulsory and elective courses;
- Learn about the various programs, clubs and teams offered at UHS;
- Have the chance to participate in a Q & A session with present UHS students
This will be an exciting, informative experience for our students, as they will get a first-hand glimpse of what education will look like in the years to come!
Grade 8 students will be receiving permission forms this week. Parents and guardians are responsible for safely dropping off and picking up their child.
Halloween: Our school board aims to operate guided by the Human Rights and the Ontario Human Rights Code which recognizes the importance of equity, inclusion and human rights. As families, we encourage you to speak to your children about the fact that there are many cultural, religious, socio-economic and personal beliefs that may prevent many from celebrating Halloween. We need to respect those that do and do not celebrate this day. Costumes should be respectful of others. For example, if something is representative of a person’s culture or religious beliefs, then it should not be worn as another person’s costume. Halloween costumes as always, are NOT mandatory and there should be no pressure to purchase a costume. Students may choose to: *Make a costume which promotes creativity and imagination * Wear the Spirit Day colours (orange and black) * Wear their Parkview house colours.
No Replica Weapons –Students celebrating Halloween in costume at our school must comply with the Safe School’s policy. Costume accessories including, but not limited to, toy guns, knives, axes, swords, etc. are not in compliance with York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0. Please DO NOT send these accessories to school with your child. Please note that this policy applies to all students at all levels, including Kindergarten. Please do not send masks or food/treats to school, this will help ensure student safety. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Each classroom will be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to Markham Foodbank. Please ensure items sent for the food drive are NOT expired or open.
A SPOOKTACULAR snack will be sold at morning recess for students in grades 1-8 on October 31st for $3.
