Happy Vaisakhi and Holy Friday to those families who recently observed significant faith days and hope our Parkview community had the opportunity to enjoy the warmer weather this past week! Junior Girls and Boys Basketball continues this week along with Boys Badminton. Our students are enjoying community walks and field trips! If your child attends a field trip, it is important that families pack a lunch – hot lunches from that day will be distributed at the end of the day. A reminder that our literacy committee will be hosting a Parent Tea on May 3rd from 8:45-9:45 am. The session focus will be on developing literacy skills in the primary grades and how to support the learning at home. Also a reminder to families to ensure students are dressed appropriately as lower, more seasonal temperatures are expected this coming week.
Students should not bring toys, cards, loot bags or outdoor equipment to school.
September 2023: As we begin planning for next year, please inform the office if you are moving or if your child will be attending another school in September.

Fun Fair Grade Raffle Baskets: A note was sent home last week with information about our Fun Fair Grade Raffle Baskets including each grade’s theme and suggestions for donations. This year’s basket themes include: A Builder’s Dream (Kindergarten), For A Rainy Day (Grade 1 & 2), Chef’s Special (Grade 3 & 4), Summer Holidays (Grade 5 & 6) and Movie Night (Grade 7 & 8). We are looking to the generosity of our Parkview families to donate any new, unused items and gift cards consistent with your child’s grade theme to help make this fundraiser as exciting and successful as possible! Cash donations will also be accepted and will be used to purchase additional items for the baskets. These baskets will be raffled off at our Food Truck Fun Fair on June 8th. Thank you in advance for your donations!
Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2023: Each year, Ontarians mark the first full week of May as Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week. This important week is about:
● Increasing awareness of the signs of child and youth mental health problems
● Decreasing stigma
● Understanding that help is available and it works!
One in five Ontario children and youth have a mental health problem – That is about 500,000 kids. Disorders range from anxiety, depression and conduct disorder to eating disorders, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder. Left untreated, mental health disorders can lead to school failure, family conflicts, drug abuse, violence, and even suicide. The
good news is that help is available and treatment works!
For more information on Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, please see CMHA Mental health Week. Information can also be found in the YRDSB Student Mental Health and Addictions Newsletter for May 2023. Newsletter translations available on https://www2.yrdsb.ca/student-support/mental-health
